As some other people responded, whispers are limited to VIP members logged into the chat with the gold font color.
We strongly encourage you to keep whispers to a minimum and only use them when absolutely necessary otherwise they severely detract from the conversations in the room.

Well as the fact that the OP saud 'new to the site', doesn't have an avatar (Which only VIP's can have) and didn't mention they were a VIP I assumed they were either a non registered user OR a registered NON-VIP which is why I replied like I did. Quote
