I tend not to cheer for most countries in the Olympics - the competition just strikes me as more individual than national, and the team sports are usually assembled just weeks before. The athletes have all worked incredibly hard to get to where they are, and in most cases, nothing really separates the gold medalists from those who didn't medal, let alone those still sitting at home. The worst luge participant was barely two seconds off the mark of the luge champion. Perhaps he should have been born two inches taller, or pointed his toes with more precision. Or maybe it was the skeleton results that were so close. Who can tell? Lay on a sled one way, it's luge. Lay another, it's skeleton. And supposedly 'insane'. I'd rather lay on the sled sideways, legs spread eagle while waving my arms about as if auditioning for the South African National Congress official interpreter position. A new sport, we'll just call it 'Special'. Quote
