The guardians of mankind must be ever vigilant for corruption... not in their surroundings... but in themselves.
Virtue. Dry dread Duty. Sacrifice. These must always be at the forefront.
No reward shall ever be given. Virtue is its own reward. Only Death after Suffering and Release.
So has it always been. So shall it always be.
But sadly, many succeeding in this still fail. For it serves not to be a zealot. Deliberate excursions into the jungle of earthy passion must be made. The cup of Life drunk to its dregs. One must experience Life to cherish it.
There are no shortcuts. All paths, all labors become known. The fool optimizes one parameter and tells himself he has won if he gathers lots of it into himself. His triumph is a shallow and transient thing.
The threads gather into a rope. The wasted frays fall off. What remains, the true legacy, is that never-ending rope that stretches ever upwards.
