i saw the 99 kiss show too, was good times
and NIN's lighhts in the sky (last years tour) also very good show although i am not a huge fan of their music they put on a hell of a show
and i'm revising my answer!! although i still say ac/dc was the best all around show ever, for sheer intensity, i think everyone needs to see Lamb Of God live.....its nucking futs
but the ac/dc show was really unforgettable! so...lets call it a tie! Quote

Primus first opened for RUSH in 1992 for the "Roll the bones" tour.I was there Quote
Concerts were less than $10.00 back in the day, so I caught a lot of shows.
They all had their special moments. I can close my eyes and still see them.
Judas Priest in 82
Iron Maiden and Accept 85
Kiss Reunion tour 96
Metallica 97
I wouldn't trade my experience at any of those for anything. But images from all of those flashed in my head as soon as I read the question.
Just saw Staind, Shinedown and Chevelle last weekend. If you get a chance to go to the "Stimulate this" tour, I'd recommend it. A damn good show. Quote

My best experience was actually at an opera, Don Giovanni, my favorite one.
What made it so great was not just the voice talent that was there. ( oh man was the Commendatore awesome, able go low for the growling 'climax' note of the key scene instead of 'wimping out' an octave higher like so many) But was mainly just the balance. Great orchestra that was not too loud or too soft relative to the voices. Well conducted. No theatrical tricks made at the expense of the music - just enough to make it a little unique and interesting.
Mozart was such a genius and to me this is his master work. No other opera comes close for me.
And the libretto, which often gets forgotten by people in their reviews, is also my favorite. Can't think of a more enjoyable way to learn some Italian.
But the quality of the experience really does vary greatly performance to performance, or maybe more true from interpretation to interpretation. You can go to youtube for example and see a number of different takes on the same opera that have greatly different effect on you. Some to me are just awful lol spoiling whatever talent they have assembled. But this is of course a subjective thing.
More than most other types of musical performance I've sampled, it takes some homework to appreciate. The best trick I have learned is to buy a CD set that comes with a translation booklet before you go to the show. It is a lot more enjoyable and interesting when you get the jokes and understand the characters. Kind of hard to do when you are absorbed with entertaining friends and taking in the scenery. ; ) You will find that there are a number of different styles, moods, 'depths' that have been created. Some have characters that are much more interesting than the superficial or silly type that many have come to associate with this art form.
lol and just like Metallica's version of the Imperial March somehow falls way short of the original, you won't find a rock opera that has quite the same impact as one of the classical marvels done well.

Yeah, they freaking rock. I've seen them twice now. Once for their Evening With show, and again when they were co-headlining with one with Megadeath. That concert was awesome cos I got to see Sym X and DT in the same venue!
