Sessions will be confirmed. The GOP has control of the Senate, and the Democrats don't have the votes to stop him. The other appointments will be easily confirmed as well. Trump will have at least three Supreme Court appointments, and they will be confirmed. Regarding Sessions, again, there is ZERO proof that he is a racist. The Democrats (they are the only ones doing this) are twisting statements he made and making up a lot of lies about him. That is their typical MO. Sessions has said that it isn't the job of AG to MAKE law, it is only his job to enforce the law, which he will do as AG. Just like it isn't the job of Supreme Court justices to MAKE the law, they are supposed to interpret the law and the Constitution. There is nothing wrong with what Sessions has said so far.

My pleasure.
It is a shame more Americans don't have the patience to listen to all the testimony. There is also plenty of discussion in the various media. The Civil Rights community gave a clear message that he can't be relied upon, to say the least, to protect voting rights. You had some people who worked with him saying what a great guy he is but not really able to defend his record which is what it is. You had the deserved disgust of the LBGTQ community communicated very clearly. All groups in that formal setting basing most of their claims on his record and an occasional statement he made during the recent campaign. He can't complain about his treatment in that hearing. Nor can his opposition complain that every concern was not raised. You should all see how your senator behaved with such a candidate before him/her and you damned well should note how they vote.
Session's enemies are lying about him and his record. Sessions never supported the KKK in any capacity and in fact fought against them in Alabama. You need to watch Senator Cruz's speech when he had the opportunity to question Sessions. Cruz was right on the money. If you want to see the abuse of power and abuse of the office of AG, remember the last eight years of this current administration. Hopefully your dementia is not so bad you can't remember it. To use the office of AG to target your political opponents just because you disagree with them is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. To have them audited just because you hate what they say when they speak on any issue is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. Holder and Lynch should be in prison. Cruz mentioned everything this corrupt AG has done for the last eight years, and when all of this was going on, the Democrats were completely silent. And they were silent because they agreed with all of the unconstitutional actions of Obama's AG. I call this current DOJ the Anti-justice Justice Department. Why don't you pay attention to all of the criminal activity of this Justice Department before you criticize Jeff Sessions, who did absolutely nothing wrong?
Also, the Democrats twist what Sessions thinks about voting rights. Sessions never said he didn't want minorities to vote. If you didn't get in line and go through the proper channels to become a citizen of this country (illegal aliens), then you can't vote. It's plain and simple and common sense. If you have to provide a photo ID to purchase specific items at a store and for many other things, of course you need to provide a photo ID to vote in elections. Obama's Executive Order on this issue will be reversed, by the way.
Sessions is a good man who is being smeared and lied about. But he will be confirmed by at least 52 votes.

Trump`s presence at the White House reminds me of an old movie, `Idiocracy`, let`s just hope he acts wise, that US and the rest of the world finds only nice words for him when he`s finished his mandate and that the statements he made in his campaign all forgotten, as they say ``Barking dogs seldom bite ``

It will take him a while to get used to his new job. He'll have to be satisfied with churning his cabinet when he inevitably steps in it.
This and having to do thera-pee-ewww-tic exercises for his poor ol' twitter finger (repetitive motion induced pain) will keep him well occupied.
Trump's hair style is very strange, and he looked a lot better when he was in his thirties. But as long as he does the right things policy-wise, what he looks like physically is not an issue to me.

Just would like to take a moment and give a thank you to the dedicated members of the press who work so hard to keep us informed. The stories break hard and fast. During election time the pace is especially fast.
You are an essential part of our democracy. You have some spectacular achievements in your past. Some really memorable moments and some legends have graced your ranks.
You have learned to deal with attacks upon you. By those who would like to silence you. Manipulate you. I hope you will stand up for each other. Not be divided by calculated strategies against you. I have faith in you. Am proud of you. And wish you luck in the coming year. It will be a busy one!

To kind of wrap up and give some discussion appropriate to the American holiday celebrated this weekend...
It is typical to do a too quick shoddy job of it when discussing racism in this kind of setting or even a Senate hearing. The problem is understanding what is meant by the word itself. Because there are degrees of it. In my own family, for example, there are members that I would guess have similar level as many of the figures in question. They aren't Klansman level. They have black friends and have acted positively on some matters in the area. I don't despise them. But I'd never let them have a responsible position, if it were in my power, where this weakness or blind spot is especially damaging to themselves or others. There is a desire to make it clear that use of tactics that take advantage of racial differences for the sake of political gain are despicable and to give a hard consequence for their brazen use. It takes discipline and care to make sure that this desire does not lend itself to abuse that is unacceptable in its own right but also can allow the opposition wiggle room to skirt the issue.
There was a moment in the Sessions hearing that I wish had gone differently. Lindsey Graham took a line of sophist questioning against one of the men testifying against the nomination. His argument was flawed and could have been dealt with easily and forcefully. Unfortunately it wasn't. He chose the particular speaker to use it upon well. It wouldn't have worked on some of the others whose ability in those kinds of situations is better. It went like this: Tell me sir, your organization gives a score for voting rights and conduct in the area of civil rights, and Senator Sessions scored very low ( I believe it was something like 11 out of 100 ) Could you tell me how I scored? Could you tell me how Ted Cruz scored? etc etc All the republicans he asked had scores in the teens and low twenties. He then asked about the scores of individual democrats. They all scored very high most 100%. Now there are of course two main ways to interpret this result which is exactly what Graham's point was. Either the republicans as a party have a problem in this area, or there is something partisan about the scoring. Graham's tactic of course was to assert that it was the latter because how could all the republicans score so poorly. He rolled his eyes and said he doubted it was their problem. But lol this is the whole effing point of people like myself who think this issue is more important than getting a few more points of GDP growth. The republicans do not worry enough about their score. They don't give enough importance to the issue. They don't protect minorities rights as vigorously as they should.
Trump of course is just terrible in the tactics he has used. A low point in the recent history of this issue. We want there to be a consequence. Even as we concede we don't have to worry about the very worst acts. We don't want this approach to be used by either party ever again.
Trump's hair style is very strange, and he looked a lot better when he was in his thirties. But as long as he does the right things policy-wise, what he looks like physically is not an issue to me.
...bulling companies into keeping their manufacturing within the country is one thing (and not very hard to do, simply threaten them with more tax ...GENIUS!) ... getting workers to work for the wages comparable to those paid in Mexico in order to compete with foreign makes will be another, keeping those companies profitable will be another, getting consumers to pay more for home made will be another and on and on and on .... (your reply Spurt will be something along the lines of "but the tax breaks will fix it all" ... and no it won't, not unless u have a fully subsidized auto industry, which is not affordable). Trump has a ridiculous way of plugging stupidly single faceted solutions in to complex problems, the proof of this will take time to be borne out, but it will be. Getting short term results to impress the gullible is easy, setting up the for future is another all together. Trump is no better than a bad second hand car salesman putting his buyers behind the wheel of a shiny lemon which will make the owner feel like he just bought a Ferrari ... until 2 miles down the road the wheels fall off and the paint peels away to reveal a rust bucket. Be impressed Spurt, and enjoy what will be a short lived feeling of triumph and hope, its all gonna come crashing down in your lap, wait and see, time will tell. You are to say at very best naive.
