How is it useful to the models?
Brad explained it this way in one of the other threads:
"remember that the auto-greet has a dual-purpose; it also alerts the performer that you have entered the room. Previously performers (especially those with busy rooms) had no way of knowing when different types of customers entered since the new chatters were just added to a list of everyone in the room." Actually Jeffie , the performer can get notification of a guest entering the room without sending an auto-greet.
I don't use it, comes across as too impersonal to me, I feel like everyone knows its auto-generated.
As a customer as well, I don't like it, I'd be more inclined to say hello to a performer who clearly greeted me, by either typing or audio.

Actually Scott Zee, I was answering chinmusic's question by quoting what Brad told us in Post #4 in this thread :

In Post #10 in that thread I said that I thought Brad's post was a little misleading Quote
Alerts about upcoming group/party shows or schedules. "Welcome, planning to do a big 40 minute show at 7 PM ET, hope you'll hang out and chat until then, it's going to be awesome." or "Welcome, after tonight I'm going to be off for four days," etc.
In other words, the system could grant a model an extra topic line, saving the topic for a more general message about the tone of the room.
Thoughts?

I'm quite sure why you would quote brad if you found the explanation misleading.
I just wanted to make it known that models can get notified without any auto greeting. Therefore the only purpose it serves is greeting guests who do not know it's an auto-greet, to make them feel welcome. But in reality , everyone knows better and dislikes it.

Interesting suggestion, Paul.
I think Auto Greet is used much less by the US models, who tend to talk rather than type. I think William's post confirms that. So it may be sensible to think of alternative uses for it. If you can get the right balance between information and advertising I think your suggestion could work.
Also, you need to consider whether to include the member's name. It might be off-putting if it sounds anything like: "You have been selected Mr Ronnie-uk to take part in our ...."

But wouldn't that be more appropriate for a topic or blog? As an auto-greet, it's still impersonal, and to me, it would seem like an unsolicited infomercial.
Maybe this auto-greet controversy is not that big a deal, but I maintain that it's unnecessary, and according to Scott Zee, not needed for notification of a guest entering a room.
Bottom line for me...auto-greet does not enhance my first impression upon entering a room; it actually detracts. Quote

Sorry to butt in but when you have people coming in and out of your room at a very fast pace it's very difficult to greet everyone as well keep up with the previous conversations. I guess that's where audio comes in handy but I personally don't feel comfortable using audio in open chat. I totally agree that the auto greet is very impersonal and should be changed to where we can create a personal greeting for any specific memeber that we choose. I'm very happy this topic has been brought up again because I have noticed a change once I started using it. Quote

I'm sure it's very difficult in a busy room, so why try to greet everyone? Personally I don't need to be greeted within 5 milliseconds of entering a room either by auto-greet or by personal greeting from the model Quote

1. I don't need to be greeted anyway, if the model is busy, I can see that in the chat and I am not offended.
2. Autogreet makes me slightly annoyed and gives me the impression that the model can't be bothered to do his job to entertain us, so it's a bad start for a relationship with me. Quote

Excellent!!!...I hate to be OUTED in a room also...
if the model is too busy to greet me I can understand that...
If he/she is not...then I prefer to make the first move and say HI if I'm
interested in what is going on... otherwise
I prefer anonymity... Quote
