I think that many guests are merely stopping by rooms to see if they like what is happening or if the model looks like his pictures, which is totally fine by me. I have experienced having a guest sit silently for an hour and as soon as I say hello he bolts! I sometimes think a guest may not have the money to go private and when spoken to may feel embarrassed and just exit - perhaps they enjoy watching whatever you do in free and feel that striking up a conversation without any means to do more than talk would be asking too much. To be clear, I don't mind at all if somebody wants to hang out and not spend money - I appreciate anyone that comes into my room - they must like something! Like any relationship, I think being patient and polite pays off, even if not directly. I try to say hello to all who visit and about half of the people respond, but the ones who do respond seem to appreciate the friendly gesture and others come back when they feel less intimidated or pressured.
