Hi,
Rather interesting situation to explore.
As for me I try to avoid this phrase at all and use only "You're welcome". If someone says "Thank you" there is someting good or positive you brought to life of another person and he had a chance to express gratitude. He appreciates your work. But "Nothing"scores your work out.It's a false modesty. Ironically this phrase is very popular in Russia. But you see another countries consider it as an insolence.

Hi there,
The English "you're welcome" is a synonym for "don't mention it" or "think nothing of it", when you want to say you had fun too :winkwink

, so it was no trouble or "nothing" for you. It should NOT be used together.
Spanish (de nada), French (de rien) or German (keine Ursache) use all the "it was no trouble for ME" version instead of a "I am happy for YOU" type of reply as is the English standard.

ok..today i have just learn something new... someone told me i`m arrogant because after he said thanks you i replied "you are welcome for nothing" ...and by then i did not knew it was an insult in english ...and i do have to admit i said "you are welcome for nothing" to over 100.000 ppl on here...but no one told me it does mean very different in english..in romania "you are welcome for nothing" it does translate "nu ai pentru ce" witch is a polite thing..not an insult..so sorry to each and everyone that feelt insulted by these words but did not told me just so he don`t argue...have a good day everyone.

Sencer you have nothing to apology for. I do believe you are a well respected performer on the site for those of us who have gotten to know you. You show an interest that surpassed that of most performers on the site and a willingness to express your opinions in the forums. To the best of my knowledge you always have shown respect to the viewers who have come to your room, and an interest in connecting with them.
Dude in short be proud of who you are, and if someone does happen to take offense to something you might say it is simply solved by that person messaging you in a polite way to discover why this was the case. You my friend are a very intelligent person in your own right.

i do apreciate each and everyone for positive answers,but the topic wasn`t created to get your sympathy guys,the topic was created to apologize because i did use that expresion "you are welcome for nothing" to almost each and everyone of you...so this is my apology if i did insult anyone here. that wasn`t my intention

Nice you are apologizing, man!

English can fuck us sometimes... In Brazil, after an "obrigado" (thank you) you have to answer "de nada" that is translated as "for nothing" and I learned that the correct in english is "you are welcome", but if I said the sentences together I would have the same problems that you had!
