I use the freaking EVI and I don't need all this mumbo jumbo!
With all due respect, do you own or have you ever used the EVI 30? Quote
I knew what the buttons on the remote did. It is pretty easy to figure out! Quote
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analog-to-digital_converter
Video in the form of S-video and Composite is analog, Audio from a Microphone is analog.. People are analog devices too ;) Computers are electronic binary computing devices that work in the digital world of 0's and 1's.
New Video cameras that are high definition use a digital form of capture but there is also a hidden Analog-to-digital converter inside them too that convert light from the sensor to digital data and same with the audio. Just the output they produce is normall threw HDMI which is a digital output, but they also have standard outputs too like S-video and Composite so again they convert Digital back to Analog form for old type equipment like the standard T.V..
Okay won't go into more detail a definition from internet below.
Definition-
Analog-to-digital conversion is an electronic process in which a continuously variable (analog) signal is changed, without altering its essential content, into a multi-level (digital) signal.
The input to an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) consists of a voltage that varies among a theoretically infinite number of values. Examples are sine waves, the waveforms representing human speech, and the signals from a conventional television camera. The output of the ADC, in contrast, has defined levels or states. The number of states is almost always a power of two -- that is, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc. The simplest digital signals have only two states, and are called binary. All whole numbers can be represented in binary form as strings of ones and zeros.
Digital signals propagate more efficiently than analog signals, largely because digital impulses, which are well-defined and orderly, are easier for electronic circuits to distinguish from noise, which is chaotic. This is the chief advantage of digital modes in communications. Computers "talk" and "think" in terms of binary digital data; while a microprocessor can analyze analog data, it must be converted into digital form for the computer to make sense of it.
A typical telephone modem makes use of an ADC to convert the incoming audio from a twisted-pair line into signals the computer can understand. In a digital signal processing system, an ADC is required if the signal input is analog.

Do you OWN or USE an EVI 30?
LMAO! Quote
And the EVI camera is just a standard video camera without the video tape section and on a motorized head that allows it to move. It's nothing more then that..
And no why would I own a camera for security applications or video conferencing ? I have used them in applications for monitoring server rooms and cameras of that nature, I have moved on to i.p cameras now.. Evi is old technology ;)...
Im computer consultant btw and studied electronic engineering too .. ;) also for the last word my dissertation (also called thesis in your part of the world) was in fly by wire systems ;) in the aviation world .. so I think I know a little about how anaog and digital devices work lol... Sorry ...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_flight_control_systems
check the Airbus A320 ;) that's fly by wire as many new planes are now they operate many computers that take analog signals and convert them to digital for their flight systems to use to make the plane fly and operate under normal flight conditions ..
okay i'm tired here it's 7am and had a very long night .. Take care dear...

You still did not give me a valid or clear answer.
I know the background of the EVI -- who cares?
As a model, I use the EVI as a tool to do my job. I hooked up two cables and I now do my broadcasting with no problem.
Why do I need explanations of the binary code?
I know what to do and it requires the knowledge of an ape.
Geez.......
I am off to bed too, dear..

BTW, this is not a war, I have nothing against you at all.
But my way was easier than yours!
By all means stop by my chatroom again and say hello!
I love you! Quote
You're welcome Ohh I will drop by and say hi
Also regarding that capture device Tiff the Easy Capture from china I was doing some research into it and seems many people have problems with it even for normal use like capturing video from a dvd player or anything that gives out video.. It's just a hit and miss device, works for some people and not others.. I think you was one of the lucky ones it worked for. The problem is they use so many different chips inside them (the ADC) that not all computers like them.
That's why If anyone wants a usb capture device I send them to Pinnacle because they have great support and drivers . Also when windows goes threw it's many updates (God help us all when windows 7 comes out) some devices don't work, they were designed for older systems or just the company that makes them won't support them anymore and won't update their drivers.
Btw I think Windows 7 is great aslong as all your hardware works on it. Vista is another story that I won't go into here, thats why my main systems are still XP PRO .
If you want a non usb device Osprey capture cards are great.. Viewcast (www.viewcast.com) is the company that makes them, but they are meant for desktop computers, Laptops can't use that type of card due to them not having an area to stick them in. So thats why you either need a usb capture or a PCMCIA type capture card if the laptop can take them again.
Best type of quality will always come from the internal desktop type cards, just the nature of how they work and 2nd best is usb really.
Hope to catch you next time you are online dear, sleep well and I think we entertained many here tonight ... and put some to sleep with all the tech talk...

I reckon Loona and I were the lucky ones.
I honestly had not one bit of trouble setting my system up.
I think this thread is by far the most entertaining I've seen.
Anywhere.
Ever.
I have never seen the locking of horns between a techie geek and a porn model over a piece of equipment.
This site is way Kewl and such fun.....
And I really want to get to know you, Sugarlips..... Quote
LMAO..
Tiff and Loona I have something for you two

I just have to say now im sorry 99% / 1 % mood at moment , just you two reminded me of that..
I know this is Tiff and Loona now after seeing the one above..

Hope made you both smile ...

Now that was harsh! And I wasn't going to even mention the S Cables made in China are sold by a US business and are fully guaranteed.
You are so intelligent I want to cry!
And I do wonder which piece of equipment we were talking about, Sugarlips, my love.
You are a very nice guy and I love you! I read you bio and you sound pretty damned hot! Quote
