Keep the sound low, but don't mute entirely. I keep mine around 20%. If feedback persists when in private, mention it to the model. Could be on his/her end. Quote
Sawyer, I had the same problem a while back... I replaced the cam and it worked fine. It may be some sort of incompatibility with your Cam Driver. Either try reloading an updated version of the driver or try a new cam.... I don't have the issue any longer since I installed the new cam. I know this is the pricey way to fix the problem so try updating the driver first. Quote

There's one last thing that you may want to try if you haven't already.
If you're getting a high pitched noise every time you try and use the microphone, it may just be that the mic is too close to your speakers, producing feedback.
When you mentioned that muting stops it from happening and that lowing the audio has a positive effect, it sounds a lot like feedback.
